GCT's RF Transceiver Enables Complete, Cost Effective 802.11b Solution
June 20, 2003 - San Jose, CA - GCT Semiconductor, Inc., a leading provider of radio frequency (RF) integrated circuits for wireless devices, today announced that it has released its RF transceiver supporting the IEEE 802.11b specification and delivers the complete reference board to Taiwanese customers.
GCT's complete reference designs are optimized for Network Interface Cards, including the Cardbus, PCI and Mini-PCI formats. The reference designs feature GCT's GRF5101 Radio Frequency (RF) IC, a power amplifier and a baseband processor solution from one of GCT's many baseband partners. GCT's RF designs are based upon its direct conversion architecture, and when combined with the state machine processor architecture of its partner's products, eliminates the need for a significant number of components from the reference design's Bill of Materials (BOM), including the costly Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters, and external SRAM. This provides equipment vendors with the lowest direct materials costs, enabling them to realize immediate value from the reference design. Further, by leveraging its relationships with ODM/ OEM's for 802.11b equipment vendors, GCT also keeps the switching costs for its reference designs very low in the wireless networking equipment supply chain.
"Our extensive expertise in designing highly integrated RFIC's has enabled us to penetrate the highly competitive wireless LAN market with the most cost effective, yet high performing reference designs. Growing our share of this market and offering our 802.11b/ g dual mode transceiver in October of this year will be significant milestones for GCT," commented Dr. Kyeongho Lee, President and CEO of GCT Semiconductor.
