GCT Semiconductor expands wireless multimedia applications
GCT's on-chip Bluetooth baseband processor advantages touted at Bluetooth Congress
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, June 11, 2002 ?GCT Semiconductor, a fabless semiconductor company serving the wireless device industry, today announced that the company will be hosting wireless based audio and video demonstrations at the Bluetooth Congress tradeshow, in booth #210 at the Amsterdam RAI from June 11 - 14, 2002.
Demonstrations include:
Streaming MP3 files transmitted from an MP3 player to a multimedia capable headset;
A real time high-quality audio transmission from a DVD player to surround sound speakers using low delay Sub Band Codec (SBC) coding;
Seven simultaneous telephone calls utilizing Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology on a Bluetooth ACL link.
The demonstrations will include displays of streaming audio applications featuring GCT's GDM1202, which integrates a Bluetooth baseband controller with a DSP processor. In addition, a video conferencing demonstration will feature GCT's GDM3101 media processor, which has a dual state Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) processor and MPEG4 codec for streaming audio/ video applications.
All GCT products used in the streaming audio displays are currently available as customer samples. The GDM1000 Bluetooth-enabled RF transceiver and GDM1202 Bluetooth baseband processor are both available as alpha customer samples to a select group of partners. GCT has had its Bluetooth ë»›nabled RF transceivers, baseband controllers and software stack certified by the Bluetooth SIG, and some products are currently being adopted by selective OEM's in Taiwan and Korea. The GDM3101 is an engineering sample.
"These displays clearly demonstrate how GCT's Bluetooth products enable multimedia applications over wireless communication systems. Coupled with our radios, which are based upon our patented direct conversion architecture on CMOS, GCT's baseband controller products are making innovative inroads in expanding the application possibilities for streaming audio and video technology," said Dr. K.H. Lee, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at GCT. "Our on-chip baseband processor and cost effective positioning provide GCT with a clear competitive advantage."
GCT is focused on developing integrated, cost-effective semiconductor solutions for wireless devices on CMOS that leverage the benefits of its patented direct conversion architecture. Current products include Phase Locked Loop (PLL) chips for wireless handsets, Bluetooth chipset and an 802.11b-enabled RF transceiver.
