GCT's industry first mobile WiMAX 2.3GHz/2.5 GHz Wave 2 single-chip powers LG Innotek's
new WiMAX module optimized for consumer electronics such as smartphones, MIDs, digital cameras, MP3s, etc.

San Jose, CA, June 1, 2009 - GCT Semiconductor, a leading supplier of Mobile WiMAX solutions to the global market, today announced that its Mobile WiMAX Wave 2 single-chip GDM7205, which supports both 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz, has been selected and integrated into LG Innotek's new M-WiMAX SIP module. This module is the smallest Mobile WiMAX module available today (15mmx15mm), and includes GCT's market-proven WiMAX single-chip. Based on GCT's industry-proven CMOS technology, the GDM7205 baseband plus transceiver system-on-a-chip implements MIMO and all MAC and PHY features required for subscriber station operation into one monolithic die.

LG Innotek's M-WiMAX SIP Module offers a one-chip solution integrating PMIC, TCXO, EEPROM, memory, and GDM7205 for consumer electronics such as mobile phone applications. GDM7205 reduces PCB design complexity and offers small form factor to optimize implementation in small PCB areas, enabling LG Innotek to make an ultra small and slim module for Mobile WiMAX devices. LG Innotek's module has 72-pins and supports SDIO, UART, USIM, and JTAG interface.

"Our new Mobile WiMAX SIP module is ideal for consumer electronics with ultra small and slim designs," said Cheol-Kee Hong, Vice President of R&D Center at LG Innotek. "By incorporating GCT's GDM7205 into our design, we were able to meet the challenging requirements of creating the world's smallest WiMAX module."

"We're pleased to be working closely with LG Innotek in developing and offering the world's smallest mobile WiMAX module," commented Dr. Kyeongho Lee, President and CEO of GCT Semiconductor. "GDM7205 is the leading choice and enabler of the world's smallest mobile devices. We continue to develop innovative market-proven solutions optimized for today's increasing demand for small form factor, low power consumption and competitive cost."

GDM7205 is WiMAX Forum Certified™ and offers a highly integrated, low-power transceiver which minimizes the number of external RF front-end components. This single-chip supports 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz, supporting not only the Korean WiBro market, but also the US, Japanese, Russian, Taiwanese, Singapore, Malaysian, and Australian WiMAX markets without changing external components. IOT with major mobile WiMAX basestation vendors is completed, allowing device makers to easily commercialize WiMAX-enabled devices using GDM7205.
