GCT receives qualification of baseband processor
for audio streaming and its software stack

GCT Newest Baseband Processor is Targeted for MP3 Players, Speakers and Stereo Headsets

April 15, 2002 - Seoul, Korea - GCT Semiconductor, Inc. a privately held, fabless semiconductor firm and Associate member of the Bluetooth SIG has announced the qualification of its GDM1202 Bluetooth baseband processor and accompanying software protocol stack in compliance with the Bluetooth specification version 1.1. The IC is fabricated on standard CMOS and designed for use in high-performance, cost-effective Bluetooth systems.

The continued qualification milestones of our Bluetooth devices and software shows that our product line is broadening and our innovation is progressing, said Dr. K.H. Lee, President and Chief Executive Officer for GCT. We are expanding our designs to create more application specific products for this emerging market.

The GDM1202 is a baseband controller providing Bluetooth functionality for audio streaming applications. The product supports the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile defined in the Bluetooth specification with an internal audio DAC. The on-chip embedded processor is based upon GCT's 128MHz hybrid RISC/ DSP processor and can full rate Bluetooth voice/ data communication and computation intensive DSP applications. With 128Kbytes of internal SRAM, it supports both an on-chip Bluetooth stack and an audio application without external memory, which provides a cost effective, low power solution.

GCT's Embedded Protocol Stack is designed to be independent of OS and Bluetooth-compatible modules. GCT's protocol stack and profiles are fully integrated with an LM/ BB layer running on GCT's baseband processor family, which includes the GDM1202, for optimal performance in time-critical applications such as streaming MP3.

"The GDM1202 baseband processor and our protocol stack, which are optimized for low-cost, high-performance Bluetooth applications, demonstrate GCT's continued technical leadership in the development of chipsets and software that enable wireless communications," added Dr. Lee. Sampling for the GDM1202 will be available to a select group of prospective customers in May 2002.
